Note: This analysis focuses on quantifiable savings. Additional benefits not included: reduced training costs for repetitive tasks, lower employee turnover from eliminating tedious manual work, improved consistency and quality control, and the ability to reallocate labor to higher-value activities.
The bandsaw blade cuts at a consistent height just above the tray lip, harvesting more product per tray than scissors can typically achieve without being extremely meticulous and time-consuming. Hand-cutting usually leaves usable product behind because it's difficult to cut uniformly. This consistency means more of what you grow actually makes it into your package.
Additionally, reduced handling minimizes crop loss during the harvest process.
